@HEY_FISHY_FISHY: Fish & Chips with San Miguel Pale Pilsen Beer Batter @MercatoCentrale

Text by Nikka Sarthou and Photos by Crissy Castillo

Hey Fishy Fishy 3

Who would have thought that the movie “Deuce Bigelow” would be the source of inspiration for a fish and chips stall?

Miguel Gregorio, the owner of Hey Fishy Fishy, actually wanted something that is different and unique. He conceptualized this food business and launched it in Mezza Norte weekend market last January 2013. His main product and bestseller, the basic fish and chips, is affordable at P120 and comes with the traditional tartar sauce.

What makes his product unique is that he uses beer batter to coat the fish—and no other than San Miguel Pale Pilsen. The beer adds an indescribable yet distinct flavor to the fish, making it yummier than usual. This dish is best eaten right away, while still hot and fresh. I am not surprised why this has been a favorite of Miguel’s family—their comfort food, in fact.

THE FARM Restaurant showcases the Organic Beef Products of The Farm Organics, certified by the Organic Certification Center of the Philippines (OCCP).

They have been raising their own cows in their 1,000-hectare farm in Masbate since 1976. The cows are free to roam and graze around the property. They grow them naturally, without the use of any antibiotics, growth hormones or artificial drugs.

They serve really good organic steaks for less than P1,000 and also have healthy burgers like Paleo Burger and Vegan Mushroom burgers.

(Note: They were the first to use The Farm branding since 1976. This is different from The Farm Spa at San Benito.)

Aria Revisited-48.jpg

We love trying out new restaurants, but there are times when we want to revisit places that we've been to simply because they're yummy. One of our favorite Italian places in Boracay and in Manila is Aria because of the delicious pizza, pasta and salad combinations.

Recently, they added innovative cocktail drinks by Tim Walters and also a Kids' Menu.

Here is our updated Aria experience...

NEW YORK MINUTE: Freshly Made Home-Cooked Paninis @MercatoCentrale

Text by Nikka Sarthou and Photos by New York Minute

New York Minute Paninis empire_steak

If I had a minute to go and grab something to eat, it would be some sort of all-in-one meal—like a sandwich. A more fun alternative would be the panini, Italy’s version of stuffed bread or sandwich, which typically uses ciabatta that is horizontally cut in half and filled with all kinds of meat and/or veggies and cheese.

I recently discovered a panini place in Cucina Andare, New York Minute Paninis, which offers eight different variants and creates them upon order. A must-try is the Empire Steak, a bestseller that has sautéed beef, bell peppers, onions and mozzarella cheese. Their version of the classic Philly cheese steak is spot on with the delicious combination of the beef, veggies and the melted cheese. This is a panini that would satisfy even those with big appetites!

WEE NAM KEE: Hainanese Chicken Rice now uses WNK Singapore's Yellow Chicken! @WeeNamKeePH

Read First: Wee Nam Kee's Hainanese Chicken Rice Now in Manila!

The NEW Wee Nam Kee-42.jpg

Finally, Wee Nam Kee has imported the Yellow Chicken, considered the Wagyu of Chickens, for its Hainanese Chicken Rice! This was a response to a customer suggestion on importing the same chicken (sourced from Malaysia) originally used by Wee Nam Kee Singapore.

The Wee Nam Kee we love just got better, and they even added signature drinks and desserts to complete the dining experience. You've got to try the Yellow Chicken Difference. :)

(Note: Yellow Chicken is on a limited run from May 1 to June 30 at WNK Glorietta and Serendra.)

BROTZEIT Philippines: Starting the German Bar & Resto Craze in Manila? @BrotzeitPH

brotzeit-50.jpg

BROTZEIT is a Singaporean-owned German restaurant that aims to promote quality German Beers and Bavarian cuisine in the Asia Pacific Region. Manila is the 10th branch in the world from the time the restaurant first opened in 1996.

"Brot" means "bread" and "zeit" literally translates to "time" in German, so its name means bread time or small meal or snack time, which usually is accompanied by refreshing, good quality beers.

Although it was a bit expensive and some of the dishes got mixed reviews, I did love the draft beers and the sausages. Could this be the start of a German beer/ resto craze in Manila?
